Broadstairs Surf Life Saving Club has been given more than £1,700 towards lifesaving equipment for use in their training sessions.

The funding given by London Array, arguably the most widely known UK offshore wind farm, has been used to purchase an automated defibrillator, emergency oxygen, other resuscitation and first aid equipment.

Chairman of the Club, Dave Bennett, said: “We are extremely grateful to London Array for funding this equipment. It’s helpful for training lifeguards, but even more important for when we are at the beach in the event of an accident. It means that we are equipped to deal with situations up to the level we are trained at for the Surf Lifeguard qualification. Were something to happen in front of us while we are training having this equipment means we feel confident that we could give the best care we could until the emergency services arrived.”

Charlotte Prett from London Array said:“We are very pleased to be able to support Broadstairs Surf Lifesaving Club in this way and are pleased to be able to help develop the next generation of lifeguards.”

The equipment has been put to use in training over 20 lifeguards towards their Surf Lifeguard qualification.
